CLASSES
Vanaja Dasika is a highly trained professional performer, choreographer and musician now living and teaching in Canberra. Vanaja comes from a famous kuchipudi dance and music family which includes her teacher, the renowned Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam.
Vanaja has been teaching kuchipudi dance and karnatic singing since she arrived here in September 2010. She is keen to meet new students and has already established a school in which she is teaching both the art forms.
Interested in learning kuchipudi ?
Students can start at any age and with or without prior dance experience. Six or sixty- Vanaja has students at both ends of the spectrum.
Fees
Fees have to be paid monthly.
Beginners- what to expect ?
It takes a steady effort on the student’s part to acquire the beautiful and very physical movements needed for kuchipudi, so basic techniques will be taught throughout the first year and once the student is capable of doing them the next level will be introduced in the first year or second year depending the students ability. This gives the beginning student time to assimilate some of the steps needed in the choreography and while you learn these you will be developing the
that are characteristic of kuchipudi (and of very real health benefit for the student!)
Additionally, you will be learning the fascinating theory which underpins kuchipudi and about the wonderfully rich culture which it rises out of. Kuchipudi is full of fabulous stories which the dancer learns to embody.
What to wear ?
In class clothing is simple, loose and comfortable. You need to be able to move. Costumes for performing tend to be more elaborate and gorgeous.
